October 3rd, 2014

Just six runners have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having returned to racing in particularly impressive form this season, Hallowed Crown has understandably opened as and maintained status as outright favourite in Roman Consul Stakes betting markets, currently available at odds of $2.25 ahead of Brazen Beau ($3.80), Time For War ($6) and Nostradamus ($7) at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Hallowed Crown continue his exceptional run of form through the 2014 Roman Consul Stakes, or will one of his rivals find the line in the clear?

Time For War ($6)

Securing several impressive results while unable to string together much of a consistent run of form over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Time For War completed an exceptional trial on Tuesday morning, matching renowned stable mate Rubick stride for stride, and is a great chance of delivering on generous $6 odds in the Roman Consul Stakes. Debuting with a comfortable win in a minor over 1100m in November, the Snitzel colt charged home to win the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) first-up before finishing a credible fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships. While unable to figure in his next start, Time For War responded in the best way possible when returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) most notably on May 24th. While allocated the outside barrier, the small running group should mean in-form jockey Tye Angland will have no issue finding ideal position from jump in the Roman Consul Stakes.

Hallowed Crown ($2.25)

Without doubt the class horse confirmed for the 2014 Roman Consul Stakes, Hallowed Crown is yet to be defeated in his four start career and carries form at the highest level of Australian racing into this weekend’s Group 2 after poking clear to win the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last time out on September 13th. Winning the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1150m) on debut before making a successful transition to black type racing when taking out the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on April 12th, the Street Sense gelding returned for another comfortable win in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) in his only other start prior to the Golden Rose. Confirmed to be partnered by last start jockey Hugh Bowman, Time For War will have to find an extra gear to overcome Team Cummings’ current stable star.

Brazen Beau ($3.80)

Open at odds of $4, Brazen Beau has so-far received the greatest market share of wagers for success in Roman Consul Stakes betting markets and currently registers as clear $3.80 market mover. Winning a minor over 1100m on debut before finishing a luckless fifth in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m), the I Am Invincible colt truly hit his straps over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival; winning the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) before placing second in both the BRC Sires’ Produce and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m). Placing a credible fifth in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) first-up on September 13th, punters may find value in including Brazen Beau as a selection in a Roman Consul Stakes trifecta bet.
